Greetings:

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer break. We are just a few weeks away from an exciting new school year. Change is the keyword this year. We will have new administrators leading the High School, Middle School and the School District. Mathew Raba will be our new High School Principal. Mathew has been a math teacher in the High School the past eight years and is very familiar with the operations of the High School. He is excited to have this opportunity and will do a great job.

Kevin Smidt is our new Middle School Principal. He was formerly an assistant principal in Sheridan, Wyoming the past eight years. He has been recognized for his leadership in education by being chosen as the Wyoming Assistant Principal of the Year. Kevin is very knowledgeable in the area of instruction and teacher development. He is learning very quickly all the various facets of being our Middle School Principal. He comes to our District highly recommended and we expect great things from him.

I have taken over the reins as Superintendent for the School District. I believe we are one of the best school districts in the State of South Dakota. Being the High School Principal the past nine years has allowed me to be part of many changes and new programs in the District. A caring and knowledgeable teaching staff is implementing the changes and new programs in the District.

There are many people that help to make a great school. To begin with, our School Board has a good blend of experience and new energetic board members. We have fantastic facilities that are maintained by Greg Boyd and his staff. Our Business Office is managed by one of the best Business Managers in the State, Susan Proefrock. We also have a wonderful support staff that includes Central Office staff, school nurses, paraprofessionals, building secretaries, and food service staff. We are lucky to have so many great people working in our school system.

I am looking forward to our upcoming school year. I also look forward to continuing to make Belle Fourche one of the best School Districts in the State. If you are in town and have the time, stop in and say hi.
