Here at Belle Fourche School District’s North Park and South Park Elementary Schools, the school year has started out strong with plenty of new excited students, some amazing new staff, and lots of smiling students and staff returning for another great Bronc year!

As the school year is still revving up to exciting and engaging events for students and families to enjoy, we started off with our first big event last night for the elementary students: STEAM Night!

Our Elementary STEAM Night was an event that took place at the South Park Elementary School’s Gym and was open from 5-7PM on September 7th for K-4th grade students and their families to enjoy a variety of STEAM-related activities and food! STEAM stations included a variety of hands-on activities involving experimenting with sink or float, snap circuits, marble runs, airplanes, food chains, KEVA planks, magnets, Morse code, fingerprinting, water bottle flipping, and more. STEAM Station items were provided by our partner for the event, South Dakota Statewide Family Engagement Center, while the STEAM stations were staffed with the help of Belle Fourche School District staff and high school volunteers. Pizza was also provided at our STEAM event for students and their families, along with cookies and water supplied by Belle Fourche PTO. It was such a fun night to come together, learn and explore, and we thank everyone who helped make our event possible through volunteering or visiting to take part in the STEAM merriment!

For our next big event, happening for the whole month of September, we are recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by bringing awareness through collecting pop tabs to turn in for donations. The grade level that collects the most pop tabs will win a Pop Party at the end of the month! Grayson is a local Black Hills boy who has been battling cancer for many years, he is known as the Pop Tab Kid. The pop tabs are collected and then donated to the Ronald McDonalds House Foundation. Many families in our community have benefited from the use of these homes while their children received treatment or were in the hospital away from home. Pop tabs will be collected at both South and North Park schools throughout the month of September, with the pop tab bins located outside of the South Park STEAM room!

For more fun upcoming events: Please keep a lookout throughout the year for flyers in students’ backpacks, and posts from our website, Facebook, and Class Dojo pages!
