In the Belle Fourche School District, we take pride in empowering every student to become confident, active leaders both in and out of the classroom. We focus on developing essential skills that will support their success as lifelong learners and leaders who uplift themselves and others. Just the same as last year, students in the Belle Fourche Elementary schools this school year have been engaging with an online program called Leader in Me. During the eighth month of this initiative, we are recognizing students who exemplify the leadership qualities emphasized in the program. Each school day, our young Bronc students practice and study seven foundational habits designed to enhance their personal effectiveness, guiding them toward happiness and enabling them to lead positive change in the world.

Our North and South Park leaders nominated and celebrated this month at our assembly for the month of October for their outstanding leadership skills included:
Kindergarten
The first winner from Kindergarten is a great listener and he follows the classroom rules without reminders. He is kind to his classmates and also treats his teachers with respect while having a positive attitude and completing his work neatly and carefully. This leader is Marcelo Mullins!
The next winner from first grade is a very kind and considerate student. He is polite and helpful to others and treats students and teachers with respect. He follows classroom rules and is very focused on his work. He is an excellent leader in his classroom. This leader is Emmett Schwede!
1st Grade
The first winner from first grade is a kind friend and student and works hard to use habit 3: put first things first to get her work done in class and putting in her best effort. She also is great at habit 6: synergize because she works great with others in her class room. She is a great role model and her teacher is so happy to have her in class. This leader is Tyndall Vetter!
The next winner from 1st grade is an outstanding first graders who strives to do his best every day. He uses habit 2: begin with the end in mind by working well with others and being a great role model. He is always one of the first students to help others and does the right thing. His teacher is so thankful to have him this year. This leader is Buck Kling!
2nd Grade
The winner from second grade uses habit 4: think win-win while working well with her peers and friends. She also leads using habit 3: seek first to understand, then be understood by being a good listener when teachers and classmates are talking. She also uses habit 7: sharpen the saw by beginning the day with all of her supplies and a smile. This leader is Olivia Stiefel-Rowland!
3rd Grade
The first winner from third grade is a great role model and kind friend in the classroom. He is constantly using habit 5: Seek to understand then be understood. He is always ready to participate in class. This winner is Anthony Tyler!
The next winner from third grade is a great example of what student of the month is. She uses habit 3: put first things first when working hard in her classroom to finish work, and she is always willing to help out peers. She also practices habit 1: be proactive by coming prepared for any situation in her classroom. This leader is Sophia Storm!
4th Grade
The first winner from fourth grade is a great student and a kind classmate. He uses habit 3: put first things first by getting started on his work and putting forth his best effort. He also uses habit 1: be proactive by showing his self-control to make sure that he is on task. He makes his classroom a better place. This leader is Ben Schwede!
The next winner from 4th grade was nominated by her classmates because she uses habit 3: put first things first and habit 7: sharpen the saw. Her classmates think that she is kind, a hard-worker and a great example for others. She has also shown that she is kind, responsible and respectful here at school. This leader is Harper Hanson!

We are incredibly proud of our North and South Park leaders for embodying these foundational habits in ways that highlight their unique strengths. We celebrated our leaders with not only their own leader medals and certificates, but also a gift certificate for a free DQ Blizzard.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Belle Fourche families, school staff, dedicated students, and community organizations for coming together to provide the opportunities, tools, and skills that empower our students to thrive and reach their fullest potential. We are also excited for next month’s Leader in Me assembly at South Park, where we will celebrate our hardworking young Broncs as they continue to develop essential leadership skills.
